This will be a PRN position.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Responsible for performing nuclear medicine exams efficiently and accurately.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs nuclear procedures as prescribed by a physician
- Assists in performing life-saving techniques (CPR, first aid) to the patient if necessary.
- Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients.
- Inserts intra-catheter needles accurately following procedures while maintaining aseptic conditions.
- Requests charts and film folders from the online computer program.
- Administers prescribed isotopes and pharmaceuticals by protocol.
- Performs daily functions efficiently while maintaining proper radiation safety techniques and ALARA principles.
- Performs daily quality control for equipment operations (floods, bars, COR, etc.).
- Understands pertinent NRC and/or state guidelines and updates.
- Implements policies and procedures for equipment operation, exams, radiation safety, calibration, isotope transport, and dose ordering.
- Maintains Hot Lab rules and regulations.
- Conducts cleanup for radioactive spills, files reports, and notifies relevant parties.
- Coordinates equipment maintenance and calibration when necessary.
- Orders and organizes supplies as needed.
- Moves, loads, unloads, and transports mobile imaging equipment as per manufacturer guidelines, if applicable.
Requirements
Education: High School diploma or GED, Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an approved training facility. Must be Board Certified in Nuclear Medicine technology through ARRT and/or NMTCB. Must maintain licensure through continuing education.
Experience: Minimum three to five years of Nuclear Medicine experience.
Certifications: Board certification in Nuclear Medicine and current CPR certification.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of nuclear medicine exam policies and protocols.
- Ability to effectively care for patients across all adult/adolescent points, including physiological and psychosocial care, education, safety, and criteria.
- Knowledge of regulatory guidelines for handling and transporting radioactive materials, including DOT shipping forms, daily logs, and securing cases properly.
- Follow QC procedures, report abnormalities, and maintain accurate logs and images.
- Follow patient preparation protocols, including proper identification, consent, IV insertion, dose administration, and calculation.
- Ensure acquisition protocols are followed, verify times and counts, and assess data quality.
Environmental/Working Conditions
Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, ionizing radiation, and other radiology setting conditions.
Physical and Mental Demands
Walking, bending, reaching, lifting, transferring activities, and using proper body mechanics. Occasional stress from multiple requests.
