Job Summary and Qualifications

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist produces diagnostic images per ARRT and NMTCB standards, following regulations from the Bureau of Radiation Control, hospital policies, and the radioactive materials license. The technologist reports to the Radiation Safety Officer and ensures compliance, providing services with radioisotopes for diagnosis or treatment, demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, patient care, radiation safety, and specialized techniques. Maintains professionalism and ethical standards.

  • Provides patient-specific care, ensuring high satisfaction.
  • Produces high-quality scans for neonatal to geriatric patients.
  • Follows protocols for imaging and isotope dosing, adjusting for age or disease as needed.
  • Operates nuclear medicine equipment efficiently.
  • Completes scans timely, organizing workflow effectively.
  • Skilled in imaging trauma, acute, and challenging patients, adjusting positioning as needed.
  • Understands disease processes, images findings accurately, and communicates with radiologists.
  • Performs radioactive therapy procedures per policies and license.
  • Minimizes radiation exposure following ALARA principles.
  • Adheres to radiation safety plans and practices.
  • Explains procedures clearly to patients and families.
  • Maintains patient safety, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity.

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited radiology program (JRCERT or AMA-approved) or military training of equivalent standard.
  • Associate degree or higher in Radiologic Technology preferred.
  • 2-3 years of radiologic tech experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified NM Technologist (CNMT) or ARRT registered technologist with primary certification in CT (ARRT (NM)).
  • If hired before 4/13/12 and grandfathered in Texas, only CMRT required.
  • Registered Certificate for Transport of Hazardous Radioactive Material.
  • BLS certification per SDH policy.
