Job summary

Kiewit is seeking experienced Mechanical/Piping Designers to join the Nuclear Solutions division. The role emphasizes 3D design, piping systems, and collaboration with fabrication and construction teams to deliver safe, cost-effective designs in a growing nuclear market.

Ideal candidates have 10–15 years in 3D modeling and piping, with experience in nuclear or related sectors, and are able to relocate to fit project needs. Strong communication and background clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in CAD, drafting, or engineering.
• Proficient in SmartPlant 3D, Microstation, and AutoCAD.
• 10–15 years of 3D modeling and detailed design experience.
• Experience in Nuclear, Industrial, Power, Oil & gas sectors.
• Pipe design and equipment layout experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• US citizenship or permanent resident.
• Able to pass background check.
• Willing to relocate to Lenexa, KS or other locations.

Responsibilities

• Use 3D design software to create models from equipment drawings and provide guidance to lower-level designers.
• Design piping systems and generate isometric drawings for industrial and power facilities.
• Perform early project design work related to facility layout and equipment general arrangement.
• Develop, monitor and check design deliverables per codes, standards, and company.
• Navigate 3D models for clashes and constructability checks.
• Support construction on-site, answer RFIs, and provide design solutions.
• Coordinate with internal/external design partners and review progress.
• Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing for projects.
• Train and mentor junior designers on standards and best practices.
• Report task progress to Lead Designer.
