Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions seeks experienced Mechanical / Piping Designers to join our growing team. You will work on 3D design of piping systems for nuclear facilities, using SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and MicroStation, guiding junior staff and coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams.

The role emphasizes safety, constructability, and design excellence across power and industrial projects. This is a full-time on-site opportunity located in Lenexa, KS, with relocation support as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology, Engineering or related field.
• A minimum of 10-15 years of 3D modeling/detailed design experience.
• Experience in Nuclear, Industrial, Power, Oil and gas piping and plant systems.
• Must have experience with pipe support design and equipment layout.
• Must be a US Citizen or US permanent resident.

Responsibilities

• Utilize 3D design software such as SmartPlant 3D, Bentley OpenPlant, AutoCAD Plant 3D to create 3D equipment models and provide guidance to junior designers.
• Design piping systems and generate isometric drawings for industrial and power facilities including process steam, water, drains, gas and utility systems.
• Perform early project design work related to facility layout and general arrangement of equipment.
• Develop, monitor and check design deliverables per industry codes, standards, and contract requirements.
• Navigate 3D models, check for interferences and constructability.
• Support the construction team on-site, respond to RFIs, and provide design solutions.
• Coordinate with internal/external partners and review progress and results.
• Develop schedules, staffing requirements and assist with detailed estimates.
• Train and mentor lower-level designers on standards and best practices.
• Report task progress to Lead Designer.
