Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions in Oak Ridge, TN or Lenexa, KS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to grow our team by helping establish and maintain company standards and tools, and contribute to project success on nuclear sites. You will design piping and instrument diagrams, support design calculations, prepare layouts, and review vendor bids while developing technical and professional skills.

Candidates must be pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering, have a GPA around 3.0, and be a US citizen

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Proficiency in basic computing programs, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience with Bluebeam, AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, and Bentley AutoPipe software is preferred.
• Willingness to perform tasks as needed, including the ability to assist with field walkdowns when required.
• Demonstrates written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Help design piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for mechanical systems on nuclear projects.
• Support preparation of design calculations and specifications for major power plant equipment, such as turbines, boilers, condensers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, and water treatment systems.
• Prepare mechanical engineering layouts, sketches, and conceptual designs.
• Assist in evaluating vendor bids for technical compliance to support equipment procurement.
• Coordinate with project team members and review design progress and outcomes.
