Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions seeks a Mechanical Engineer Intern to support design and engineering tasks for nuclear projects. The role emphasizes creating P&IDs, preparing calculations, and developing layouts under guidance from senior engineers.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 3.0 GPA and are capable of basic software use. US citizenship is required for badge access. On-site work in Lenexa, KS or Oak Ridge, TN will be part of the program.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and basic computing tools.
• Experience with Bluebeam, AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, and Bentley AutoPipe preferred.
• Willingness to assist with field walkdowns when required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• U.S. citizenship with badge access documentation.
• Background check and security questionnaire required.

Responsibilities

• Help design piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for mechanical systems on nuclear projects.
• Support design calculations and specifications for major power plant equipment (turbines, boilers, condensers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, water treatment).
• Prepare mechanical layouts, sketches, and conceptual designs.
• Assist in evaluating vendor bids for technical compliance and procurement.
• Coordinate with project team members and review design progress.
