Job summary

Aalo Atomics in Idaho Falls is seeking a Fall 2026 Mechanical Engineering Intern for an on-site role focused on design, prototyping, and testing of mechanical systems for nuclear energy applications. You’ll use CAD tools and simulations to support safety and performance analyses.

We value candidates pursuing or recently completing a Mechanical Engineering degree with strengths in thermodynamics, materials science, and hands-on problem solving.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, and materials science.
• Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Inventor, etc.) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN, STAR-CCM, etc.).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and analysis of mechanical systems for nuclear energy applications.
• Conduct simulations and computational analyses to ensure system reliability and safety.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support prototyping and testing initiatives.
• Prepare technical documentation, including reports, drawings, and presentations.
• Contribute to innovative solutions that enhance performance, efficiency, and safety in nuclear systems.
