Job summary

X-energy LLC seeks a Materials Engineer to join the Nuclear Engineering team in Gaithersburg, MD. The role develops methodologies to qualify and characterize metals, graphite, composites, and welding materials for nuclear reactor applications, and to prepare supplier material specifications.

You will use simulations and calculations to assess microstructure, degradation, and lifetime performance, and assist in documentation and reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in materials engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
• Master’s or PhD may substitute years of experience.
• Experience with metallurgical analysis and metallic alloy behavior is a plus.
• Experience with radiation aging and material degradation mechanisms is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement methodologies to qualify and characterize materials for nuclear reactor applications.
• Support selection of materials, test methods, codes and standards, and prepare material specifications.
• Inform development and oversight of materials testing programs to collect properties and qualifications.
• Use simulations and hand calculations to assess microscale behavior and lifetime performance of materials.
• Write design and analysis documentation and perform reviews of engineering deliverables.
• Contribute to assessments of environmental conditions and tribology effects on materials.
