Job summary

X Energy, LLC in Gaithersburg, Maryland is seeking a senior engineer to manage engineers responsible for material qualification and lifetime analysis of graphite and nonmetallic components in advanced reactor systems.

You will oversee design, analysis, and environmental degradation management, coordinate data for constitutive models, and drive technical tools and standards across multiple projects in a high-stakes nuclear environment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical engineering teams.
• Familiarity with nonmetallic materials behavior (graphite, ceramics, composites).
• Understanding of nuclear industry codes and standards for materials.
• Experience in quality-assured engineering environments.
• Background in graphite, ceramics, or anisotropic materials preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage development and implementation of methodologies to qualify and characterize materials for nuclear reactor applications.
• Support material selection, test methods, codes, and standards; prepare specifications.
• Oversee materials testing programs to collect properties and support qualifications.
• Lead team using engineering tools, simulations, calculations and judgment.
• Assess microstructure, degradation, and lifetime performance under irradiation and temperature.
• Coordinate data collection for constitutive models and structural evaluations of irradiated graphite.
• Manage resources across projects and mentor staff to meet expectations.
• Contribute to strategy, tooling, and policy for the area of responsibility.
