Job summary

SST Direct in Torrance, CA seeks a hands-on Fabrication/Welding Lead to run day-to-day shop operations, mentor welders, and own production scheduling, weld quality, and safety standards for nuclear-grade components. This role partners with Engineering and QC to translate drawings into repeatable processes and to build a scalable team.

The position is full-time, on-site with relocation assistance and a strong benefits package, including 401(k) and health coverage. Shift is Mon-Fri 8am-5pm.

Qualifications

• 8+ years welding/fabrication experience, with 2+ years in a lead role.
• AWS Certified Welder with GTAW TIG proficiency on stainless steel and exotic alloys.
• Ability to read complex engineering drawings, weld symbols, and WPS documentation.
• Experience with ASME Section IX and B31.3 code welding.
• Proven track record leading, training, or mentoring welders or fabricators.

Responsibilities

• Lead, schedule, and mentor a team of welders and fabricators on daily production.
• Own weld quality standards; review WPS and troubleshoot on the floor.
• Partner with Engineering and QC to translate drawings into fabrication processes.
• Coordinate production priorities with Manufacturing Manager to hit schedules.
• Champion shop safety, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Hire, train, and develop welders as the team scales.
• Maintain weld travelers, certifications, and non-conformances per procedures.
