Job summary

Duke Energy seeks an experienced Nuclear Engineer to join the Nuclear Fuel Supply & Storage Group in Charlotte. The role provides technical, financial, and analytical support for nuclear fuel procurement and core reload strategies, coordinating with suppliers and senior leadership.

Ideal candidates have BS (ABET) with 4+ years' engineering experience; MS may substitute. Hybrid work with travel, and direct interaction with nuclear design and procurement teams will be essential.

Qualifications

• > BS in Engineering from ABET accredited program
• - Master’s degree in Engineering from ABET accredited program may be considered in lieu of BS
• - 4+ years of engineering experience (Nuclear Engineer III)
• - 6+ years of engineering experience or 5+ years with PE (Senior Nuclear Engineer)
• - 1+ year of nuclear experience
• - ABET accreditation and professional engineering prerequisites

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical and commercial point of contact for Duke and nuclear fuel vendor communications.
• Provide oversight of vendors' schedule and quality of nuclear fuel-related deliverables to Duke.
• Negotiate terms for products and services with nuclear fuel fabricators.
• Develop methods to support cost-efficient fuel delivery planning across fuel cycle stages.
• Perform economic comparisons of core reload design options and plant regimes.
• Interface with corporate risk and legal staff to facilitate approval of fuel fabrication purchases.
