Job summary

Duke Energy, based in Charlotte, NC, is seeking Nuclear Engineer I/II to join the Nuclear Fuels Engineering (NFE) group. The Fuel Mechanical Performance team handles fuel mechanical/thermal analyses, plant support, and in-house fuel fabrication oversight.

Roles require problem solving, strong communication, and the ability to work across teams. Hybrid work is available; relocation may be needed, with occasional travel and site access requirements.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited engineering degree required or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Science in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering or Master’s with relevant background
  • 0-2 years (Nuclear Engineer I) or 2+ years (Nuclear Engineer II) depending on experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering/technical guidance in fuel mechanical performance problems
  • Plan and support analyses and plant issue resolution
  • Prepare technical reports and calculations
  • Ensure high quality deliverables to plants on time and within specs
  • Perform fuel rod mechanics analyses (rod internal pressure, fuel melt, cladding corrosion)
  • Conduct crud and corrosion risk analyses using standard methods/tools
  • Support fuel examinations and characterization
  • Review design/manufacturing changes and approve/reject
  • Develop fuel/core component design specs
  • Manage core components and lifetime analyses
  • Collaborate with NFE, Plant Engineering, Operations and vendors
  • Participate in technical training and industry meetings
