Job summary

Duke Energy's Nuclear Fuels Engineering (NFE) department seeks candidates for Nuclear Engineer I/II roles within the Fuel Mechanical Performance group. The team conducts fuel mechanical and thermal analyses, verifies plant support for nuclear fuel-related issues, and oversees fabrication engineering with a focus on quality assurance.

Ideal candidates have a degree in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering, up to 2 years of engineering experience for entry level, and willingness to work in a hybrid

Qualifications

• BS in Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program
• MS in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering with a BS in another discipline from ABET accredited program will be considered
• 0-2 years of engineering experience for Nuclear Engineer I
• Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience and 1 year of nuclear experience for Nuclear Engineer II
• Fundamentals of Engineering Certificate and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license (desired)
• Unix and/or Linux workstation experience (desired)
• Computer programming experience (FORTRAN/Python/VBA/etc.) (desired)
• Knowledge in thermal hydraulic calculations - heat transfer, flow modeling, etc. (desired)
• Experience with fuel performance software tools (desired)
• Good written and oral communication skills (desired)

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering/technical guidance in identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in fuel mechanical performance
• Plan and support fuel examinations and component design specifications
• Develop and maintain relationships with NFE, Plant Engineering, Operations and vendors
• Ensure high quality fuel and components delivered on time and within specifications
• Perform complex fuel rod mechanical analyses and CRUD/corrosion risk analyses
• Review fuel design and manufacturing changes and approve/reject
