Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks Fire Protection Engineers (Nuclear Facilities Engineers) to oversee activities at LANL plutonium and nuclear facilities, provide guidance, review designs, inspect construction, and manage fire hazards and risks. Role levels 3 or 4 with related duties and schedule.

Positions require a Bachelor’s in Engineering and 6–12 years of experience; higher level needs 12+ years. Onsite at Los Alamos, NM with 24/7 shift coverage and possible incentives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and relevant experience required.
• 6+ years of practical work experience in fire protection.
• Advanced engineering or technical degree preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication for compliance and technical discussions.

Responsibilities

• Provide SME guidance for fire protection and life safety at LANL facilities.
• Prepare and maintain fire hazard analyses and related documentation.
• Review designs, plans, and construction for compliance with codes.
• Oversee lab-wide fire alarm system operations and maintenance.
• Mentor junior staff and provide technical leadership within the team.
• Interface with nuclear safety basis professionals and ensure program adherence.
