Job summary
Duke Energy Corporation is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to support the Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport, NC, with potential placement at Engineer III or Senior Engineer level based on experience. The role also provides support to other nuclear plants within the Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet as needed.
The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert on NFPA codes, provide field engineering support, and assist in PRA/NSCA developments, inspections, and fire protection calculations, while
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Senior: 6+ years engineering experience; Engineer III: 4+ years engineering experience.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert on NFPA codes and fire protection programs to ensure site compliance with codes, standards, fleet procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide engineering expertise and field support to identify, analyze, and resolve issues in the fire protection program.
- Support Fire Protection team members who develop and revise Fire PRA and NSCA assessments.
- Prepare for and support NRC, INPO, NEIL, NSRB, and NOS inspections and audits.
- Monitor testing and performance of fire protection features (e.g., penetration seals, fire doors).
- Review engineering changes for accuracy, program impact, and license requirements.
- Assist in developing surveillance testing, pre-plans, and fire impairment monitoring/reporting processes.
- Prepare/review Fire Protection Engineering calculations.
- Review fleet/industry OE and respond as needed.
