Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer for the Catawba Nuclear Plant in York, SC. The role may be filled at Engineer III or Senior Engineer level based on experience and potentially supports other nuclear plants within the fleet.

Responsibilities include NFPA code compliance, providing engineering field support, and developing PRA/NSCA alongside preparation for NRC/INPO inspections. Travel and on-site presence required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS or MS in engineering.
• Senior Engineer: 6+ years engineering experience.
• Engineer III: 4+ years engineering experience.
• Desirable: Registered Professional Engineer (PE).

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME on NFPA codes and fire protection programs, ensuring site compliance with codes, standards, fleet procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Provide engineering field support to identify, analyze, and resolve issues within the fire protection program.
• Support Fire Protection team members developing Fire Probabilistic Risk Assessments (PRAs) and Nuclear Safety Culture Assessments (NSCA).
• Prepare for and support NRC, INPO, NEIL, NSRB, and NOS inspections and audits.
• Monitor testing and operation of fire protection features (e.g., penetration seals, fire doors).
• Review engineering changes for accuracy, program impact, and license requirements.
• Develop and/or provide technical support for surveillance testing, fire protection pre-plans, and fire impairment monitoring and reporting processes.
• Prepare/review Fire Protection Engineering calculations.
