Job summary

Subcritical Systems in Austin, TX is seeking a creative nuclear engineer for a full-time, on-site role focused on designing, prototyping, and constructing the core of our Energy Amplifier project. You will analyze radiation-induced phenomena and contribute across engineering and regulatory activities.

The candidate will work closely with the Nuclear team to assess activation, shielding, and dose rates, while applying AI tools to boost productivity and maintain safety.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Nuclear Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Competence with MCNP/OpenMC for flux, dose, energy deposition.
• Working knowledge of radiation safety.
• Strong work ethic and resilience in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of materials for nuclear systems.

Responsibilities

• Analyze activation, nuclear heating, and radiation damage in structures and coolants.
• Design and optimize radiation shielding for personnel and equipment.
• Support neutronic design of the subcritical assembly.
• Serve as Radiation Safety Officer at the accelerator factory.
• Apply AI tools to enhance productivity.
• Document work in reports, presentations, and regulatory submissions.
• Participate in design and safety reviews.
• Identify and resolve technical risks and interface issues.
