Job summary

Thomas-Thor is seeking an electrical engineer to help turn advanced reactor concepts into safe, code-compliant designs. This full-time onsite 12-month contract is based in Richland, WA, offering 4x10s schedule and competitive hourly pay across three levels.

The role requires strong knowledge of NRC/NEI/EPRI guidance, voltage design experience, and construction project exposure, with opportunities to mentor others and influence policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or higher required.
  • Level I requires 1+ year of engineering experience or HS diploma + PE license + 1 year.
  • Level II requires 3+ years of discipline-specific engineering experience or HS diploma/GED + PE license + five years.
  • Level III requires 7+ years of engineering experience or HS diploma/GED + PE license + eight years.
  • Knowledge of ASME, IEEE, NFPA 70, and NERC codes.
  • Experience with high, medium, and low voltage design and coordination.
  • Broad experience in electrical design of substations, transmission systems, transformers, switchgear, cable raceways, and grounding/protection systems, digital relays, and controls.
  • Experience with large construction projects.
  • Commercial nuclear plant experience and/or an active PE license desirable.
  • Knowledge of advanced nuclear reactor/plant design (e.g., High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform highly complex electrical engineering analyses and designs supporting operations, systems, and assessments for new advanced reactor technology.
  • Support Owners Engineer activities, site licensing, and construction permit efforts.
  • Participate in design reviews for new reactor technologies and progressive design/build contracts.
  • Interpret and apply NRC regulations and NEI and EPRI guidance documents.
  • Provide schedule inputs and review project timelines.
  • Serve as a technical advisor, providing leadership and mentorship to other engineers on complex or unconventional problems.
  • Identify the need for, and initiative development of, new policies, programs, and procedures to meet strategic objectives.
  • Assure compliance with regulatory and industry guidance; identify design, quality, or operational issues and initiate corrective action through the Condition Report process.
  • Retain primary accountability for compliance with design bases requirements.
