Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Oak Ridge, TN is seeking a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer to support the NCS program and related analyses. You will review safety documents, perform criticality calculations, and contribute to safety across Fissile Material Operations.

The role requires a engineering-related bachelor's degree, 2 years’ experience (1 year nuclear), and proficiency with Monte Carlo neutron transport codes and Microsoft Office. U.S. citizenship is required for access to the site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ related experience, including 1 year nuclear safety.
  • Proficient knowledge of DOE Orders and NCS standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supports implementation of the Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Program.
  • Reviews and approves NCS documents and related analyses (FMO, NCSEs, NCSAs, etc.).
  • Performs audits, surveillances, and assessments of the NCS Program and project conformance to NCSA and standards.
  • Provides delivery of NCS training and evaluates its effectiveness.
  • Participates in Hazard Evaluation Studies/Hazards Analysis.

Job Description Overview

We are seeking a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer Energy, to join our Team in our Oak Ridge, TN office. Your role Stops work without fear of reprisal for unsafe conditions potentially affecting personnel safety or environmental risk. Supports implementation of the Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Program. Supports facility activities to ensure criticality safety. Prepares and peer reviews NCS documents Fissile Material Operations (FMO) Screens, NCS Evaluations (NCSEs), NCS Approvals (NCSAs), NCS Clarifications, NCS Reports, and Criticality Accident Alarm System Needs Analyses. Performs NCSE/A implementation walkdowns and provides input to site emergency plans and pre-incident plans, as requested. Maintains awareness with assigned FMOs and NCS-related issues within Project. Participates in critiques/investigations involving NCS issues. Reviews Conditions Adverse to Quality (e.g., Non-Conformance Reports, Findings) for NCS impacts. Performs audits, surveillances, and assessments of the NCS Program and Project conformance to NCSA and NCS-related contract requirements. Reviews and approves work packages, procedures, administrative aids, and other Project documents to ensure compliance with NCS requirements. Reviews and approves designs and plans that potentially impact NCS. Reviews applicable facility Safety Basis documents for NCS integration. Participates in Hazard Evaluation Studies/Hazards Analysis in support of Project activities. Identifies the need for NCS training to support Project activities. Provides delivery of NCS training and the evaluation of its effectiveness. Maintains knowledge of NCS-related standards, guides, and codes. Supports the execution of Integrated Safety Management System guiding principles and core functions and the Isotek Safety Culture. Performs other duties as assigned.

About you

Requires a Baccalaureate Degree in Engineering or Related Science. Minimum 2 years’ related experience, 1-year nuclear experience. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office. Strong communication, verbal and written skills. Ability to describe the essential requirements, relationships and importance of applicable DOE Orders and Standards with respect to NCS. Ability to perform calculations with Monte Carlo neutron transport codes. Ability to perform hand calculations for criticality. Applicants must have Real ID compliant identification to access the work location. U.S. citizenship required for AtkinsRéalis/Isotek Systems Project positions. Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $57,000 - $96,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
