AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear seeks a Senior Mechanical Analyst Energy - Remote to join our Oak Ridge, TN-based team. You will develop and validate CFD and structural models for small modular reactors and nuclear fuel cycle projects, performing steady-state and transient simulations to verify safety and performance.

The role requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, ten years of post-baccalaureate experience, and strong knowledge of NRC regulations plus ANSYS/GOTHIC.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten years post-baccalaureate experience in nuclear facilities.
  • Knowledge of NRC regulations, design codes and standards for commercial nuclear facilities.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate CFD and mechanical structural analysis for nuclear projects.
  • Perform CFD simulations (steady-state and transient) for single/multiphase flow to verify safety and performance.
  • Prepare, check and approve CFD and structural analysis calculations and documents.
  • Mentor engineers and upskill junior staff on CFD modelling and troubleshooting.

Job Description Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Analyst Energy - Remote. This remote position is based out of our Oak Ridge, TN office. Your role AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear is the subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis focused on serving government and commercial clients within the Nuclear sector in the United States. We are focused on being recognized as a premier nuclear solutions company in the United States, delivering engineering, operations, and project management services. Serves both legacy and new build nuclear clients who are designing, building, upgrading, operating and maintaining nuclear power generation and fuel cycle assets. We are a growing business, building on the foundation of our US government fuel cycle business, our international position as an Original Equipment Manufactor (OEM) and nuclear reactor technology provider, and our world-wide nuclear new build and legacy nuclear fleet maintenance experience. Develops, designs and validates structural and fluid dynamics models for small modular reactors and nuclear fuel cycle facility projects. Performs structural analysis and steady-state and transient computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of single and multiphase flow to verify safety and performance requirements for small modular reactors. Evaluates CFD simulations and coupled fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analyses to assess the structural integrity of critical reactor systems. Upskills early-career engineers and mentor engineers at multiple experience levels on CFD modelling and troubleshooting. Prepares, checks and/or approves CFD and mechanical structural analysis calculations. Ensures that design deliverables are of a high standard and compliant with relevant standards, regulations and customer specific standards, including nuclear quality assurance standards. Produces documentation that is technically accurate, grammatically correct, correctly formatted and professionally presented. Develops resolutions to technical issues and ensure necessary change control is implemented. Performs other duties as assigned.

About you

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of ten years post-baccalaureate experience. Engineering support to nuclear facility design, construction or operations. Strong communication skills in a challenging, multi-tiered environment. Strong organizational skills. Knowledge of key NRC regulations, design codes and standards for commercial nuclear facilities required. Expert user of related design software codes, including ANSYS FLUENT/CFX and GOTHIC. Design for Commercial and Department of Energy nuclear reactor projects preferred. Design for Commercial and Department of Energy nuclear fuel cycle facilities preferred. Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) experience preferred. Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $113,000 - $188,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
