Job description

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

We are looking for an Avionics NPI & Sustaining Engineering Manager to lead the production-facing engineering function for Amazon Leo's avionics bus hardware. This team supports new product introduction and sustaining engineering across released avionics designs in production.

You will lead a team of experienced engineers supporting multiple avionics LRUs and will be responsible for establishing priorities, developing technical capability, and ensuring effective engineering support for production.

As the Avionics NPI & Sustaining Engineering Manager, you will lead a team operating at the boundary between hardware development and production.

Your team may be resolving a production test failure, driving root cause on a recurring issue, or partnering with design or test engineering on corrective actions. You will prioritize work across multiple LRUs, remove execution gaps, and ensure production learning drives better hardware, test, and engineering processes.

The Avionics Electrical Engineering organization designs and delivers electrical hardware supporting Amazon Leo's satellite bus.

The NPI & Sustaining Engineering team is the production-facing portion of the avionics development organization. We partner with design engineering, manufacturing, test, quality, and operations to introduce new hardware into production and sustain released designs at scale.

Our team works across the avionics hardware portfolio to help ensure designs can be repeatedly built, tested, debugged, and delivered in a high-rate production environment.

Key job responsibilities
  • Lead a team of engineers responsible for new product introduction and sustaining engineering across Amazon Leo avionics bus LRUs.
  • Own the development organization's production-facing engineering support model for released avionics hardware.
  • Drive successful transition of new and revised avionics hardware from development into stable production.
  • Ensure rapid technical response to production hardware and test issues, including triage, containment, disposition, root-cause investigation, and corrective action.
  • Establish clear ownership and operating mechanisms for MRB, production hardware troubleshooting, and acceptance test issues across the avionics bus portfolio.
  • Partner with avionics design engineering to ensure recurring production issues result in appropriate design, test, documentation, or process improvements.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering, test engineering, quality, operations, supply chain, and program teams.
  • Use production data including yield, failure trends, test escapes, cycle time, nonconformance trends, and recurring support demand to identify systemic improvement opportunities.
  • Drive improvements to manufacturing test flows, troubleshooting methods, engineering documentation, and production support processes.
  • Balance immediate production needs with longer-term improvements that reduce technical debt and improve scalability.
  • Communicate production engineering health, technical risks, recurring issues, and recovery plans to engineering and program leadership.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience in hardware development, test, sustaining engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related engineering discipline supporting complex electronic hardware products.
  • 3+ years of experience in a management, engineering leadership, or team-lead function.
  • Experience supporting electronic hardware across the product lifecycle from development through production.
  • Experience leading root-cause investigations and corrective actions for complex electronic hardware issues.
  • Experience with PCBA-level hardware, electrical test, hardware bring-up, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working across design engineering, manufacturing, test, quality, and operations organizations.
  • Experience prioritizing technical work across multiple simultaneous hardware issues or products.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience leading an NPI, sustaining engineering, liaison engineering, product engineering, or similar production-facing hardware organization.
