Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent required.
  • 7+ years designing and/or testing complex PCBA or hardware.
  • Experience with schematic and layout ECAD tools and high-speed electronics.
  • Leadership experience with multi-disciplinary hardware teams in aerospace/consumer electronics.

We are looking for a technical leader, who has a demonstrated track record of building strong engineering teams and delivering complex solutions, to lead the Electrical Engineering team for the Satellite Avionics Bus.

Key job responsibilities
  • Lead the execution for avionics hardware development for the avionics bus.
  • Work with key stakeholders across hardware and software development teams to define subsystem requirements.
  • Work within the Electrical & Test engineering team(s) to develop, test, and deliver hardware subsystems for the avionics bus.
  • Develop and manage development processes, including architecture reviews, requirement reviews, hardware design reviews, build release reviews, test results reviews, and flight release reviews.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including antenna & RF engineering, propulsion, mechanical engineering, software, test, integration, reliability, compliance/regulatory, manufacturing, program management, etc.
  • Hire, lead, and guide the various aspects of the avionics electrical engineering team through architecture, trade studies, technology selection, component selection, circuit design and analysis, schematic capture, design reviews, PCB stack-up design, PCB layout, prototyping, bring-up, testing, characterization, debugging, and productization.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution for electrical component and subsystem test plans to ensure robust electrical designs for space applications.
A day in the life

You will lead your team for a variety of tasks for avionics subsystems, from board design, to board bring-up, design validation, and integration. You will work with a cross functional team to perform design validation and qualification testing for your subsystem. As your subsystem continues onto satellite level test and operations, your team will be the subject matter experts that interfaces with the vehicle integration & test and operations teams from test planning through launch and on orbit operations. Your team will be responsible for evaluating hardware health telemetry across test and operations while also developing processes to troubleshoot and to incorporate design improvements for issues discovered.

About The Team

Our team designs and delivers the hardware subsystems for the flight computer, propulsion controller, solar array deploy and control, magnetorquer bars, magnetometer, and camera system. We are looking for an Electrical Engineering Manager who has a demonstrated team leadership and will provide deep technical expertise in defining, architecting, implementing, verifying, and deploying to the field highly reliable, power efficient, and low cost electronics that fly the satellite.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or 3+ years of management/team lead function experience
  • 7+ years designing and/or testing complex, multi-layer, high-speed PCBA designs.
  • 7+ years in hardware development across the full product life cycle (concept to production) in Consumer Electronics, Power Electronics, Robotics, Aerospace, Automotive, and/or Communications fields or combination thereof.
  • Experience with schematic and layout ECAD tools.
  • Experience with PCB design and debugging, including microprocessors, FPGAs, power supplies, and sensors.
  • Experience with complex board designs, including high-speed interconnects, high-reliability designs, avionics, vehicle control systems, and/or motor & actuator control electronics.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Experience with developing scripts and/or software (Python) that aid the development or testing of hardware.
  • Experience automating, building, integrating, and testing systems.
  • Experience in development and test of satellite bus systems.
  • Experience with integration of systems into aerospace/avionics enclosures.
  • Experience with operations of aerospace/avionics systems.
  • Electronics design/qualification experience with radiation environments or radiation tolerant hardware.
  • Experience with low-level firmware development and integration.
  • Experience with RF design and test equipment.
  • Experience with space hardware qualification (MIL Std 1540 / SMC-S-016).
  • Experience in two or more areas: EMI/EMC test, hardware-in-the-loop testing, design verification test, radiation test, reliability test, and vehicle integration & test.
  • Experience developing requirements, test plans, and test procedures for design verification, qualification, and/or manufacturing test.
  • Experience designing and delivering test systems to support design verification, qualification, reliability, and/or manufacturing testing.
  • Experience with setup, control and automation of lab equipment like spectrum analyzers, signal generators, electronic loads, power supplies, network analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, etc.
  • 7+ years designing and testing with SoCs, DRAMs, FPGAs, multi-gigabit interfaces, power converters, sensors, operational amplifiers, ADCs/DACs, high speed printed circuit boards, and harnessing.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
