Job summary

North Atlantic Industries (NAI) is seeking a seasoned SMT Process Engineer to lead NPI activities and transition new PCBAs into high-reliability manufacturing. You will coordinate between Design Engineering and Production to implement scalable SMT processes including paste printing, pick-and-place, reflow, and AOI/X-ray, ensuring DFM/DFT adherence and process optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years supporting SMT and PCBA manufacturing.
• Experience in high-mix, low-volume electronics manufacturing.
• NPI SMT builds experience and transitioning products to production.
• Solid understanding of PCB fabrication and electronic assembly processes.
• Collaborative across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations.
• Working knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC-J-STD-001, IPC-7351).

Responsibilities

• Lead NPI activities for SMT-based assemblies from prototype to full-rate production.
• Serve as the technical liaison between Design Engineering and Production for the NPI lifecycle.
• Develop and document SMT manufacturing processes (paste printing, P&P, reflow, AOI/X-ray).
• Drive DFM/DFT reviews with Design Engineering to optimize manufacturability.
• Define tooling, fixtures, and equipment for SMT and mixed-technology PCB assemblies.
• Run NPI manufacturing on pilot and low-volume production, resolving issues.
• Improve yield and reliability with Quality and Process Engineering.
• Advise on procurement of new SMT equipment and technologies.
