Job summary

North Atlantic Industries is seeking an experienced NPI SMT Process Engineer to lead the development, optimization, and transition of new PCBAs into manufacturing within a high-mix, low-volume electronics environment. You will act as a technical liaison between Engineering and Production, ensuring scalable, high-reliability SMT processes for defense, aerospace, and industrial electronics.

With a minimum of five years in SMT/PCBA manufacturing, you will define tooling, run pilot and low-volume

Qualifications

  • Lead NPI activities for SMT-based assemblies in a high-mix, low-volume environment from prototype builds through full-rate production.
  • Primary technical liaison between Design Engineering and Production to ensure alignment across the NPI lifecycle.
  • Develop, validate, and document robust SMT manufacturing processes including solder paste printing, pick-and-place, reflow, and AOI/X-ray.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) reviews with Design Engineering.
  • Define tooling, fixtures, and equipment requirements for complex SMT/mixed-technology PCB assemblies.
  • Lead NPI manufacturing on pilot and low-volume production, resolving issues and optimizing the process.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Process Engineering to improve yield and reliability.
  • Provide recommendations on new SMT equipment and technologies to meet evolving design requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with IPC standards and internal quality systems.
  • U.S. Person eligibility required (citizenship or permanent resident).

Responsibilities

  • Lead NPI builds on pilot lines and transition to full-rate production.
  • Serve as a primary liaison across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations.
  • Ensure robust SMT processes and process documentation are maintained.
  • Drive DFx reviews with Design Engineering to optimize manufacturability.
  • Recommend tooling and equipment to support complex PCB assemblies.
  • Monitor and improve yield and reliability through process improvements.
  • Maintain IPC and customer/regulatory compliance in manufacturing.
