Job summary

General Plastics & Composites LP seeks an NPD Machinist III to advance prototypes via CNC and manual machining. You will interpret complex drawings, lead tolerances to 0.0005 inches, and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to transition designs toward production.

You will mentor peers, optimize tooling and processes, and perform setup on lathes/mills. This senior role requires minimal supervision and a strong track record in precision machining.

Qualifications

Job description

The NPD Machinist III is a senior-level machining specialist responsible for supporting New Product Development (NPD) initiatives through advanced machining, prototyping, and process optimization. This role requires expert-level skill in operating CNC and manual machines, interpreting complex engineering drawings, and collaborating closely with engineering, R&D, and manufacturing teams. The NPD Machinist III leads the fabrication of high-precision prototype components, ensures manufacturability of new designs, and contributes to the transition from concept to production.

This position serves as a technical resource within the machining area, providing mentorship, troubleshooting expertise, and recommendations for tooling, materials, and process improvements. The NPD Machinist III works with minimal supervision, consistently delivers high-quality components on tight timelines, and helps drive innovation by translating engineering concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions.

• Adhere to all engineering instruction, standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures.
• Able to perform machine set ups on manual lathes, manual mills, CNC lathes, CNC mills for all programs and part types including production and/or engineering parts with light to no assistance.
• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
• Performs preventative maintenance on machines as required per the company P.M. Program.
• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings for all processes and programs.
• Knowledge of the following elements are expected:
  • Machine Safety.
  • Job orders.
  • Standard measuring tools including, but not limited to, Micrometers (O.D. & I.D.), Calipers, Bore Gages, Protractors, Height Gages, Micro-Height Gages, Molds, Optical Comparator and Depth Gages.
  • Verifying gage calibration.
  • Machine fixturing for setups.
  • Thorough knowledge of CNC programming/languages (G/M Codes and Mazatrol) and thorough knowledge of how to create and edit programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances.

Other Job Responsibilities:

• Follow written and verbal instructions in English.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Regularly required stand, reach and move about the facility.
• Must have math skills and be able to use handheld measuring tools.
• Responsible for achieving and maintaining precision tolerances of up to 0.0005 inches on metal and steel components during machining operations.”
