Job summary

The Children’s Guild in Baltimore, MD is seeking an Intern School Social Worker to support students and families within Transformation Academy. This contract role focuses on psychosocial assessments, counseling, and coordinated case management to promote student well-being and academic success.

You will collaborate with educators, therapists, and families, maintaining confidential records and contributing to service plans while pursuing BSW or MSW licensure requirements in Maryland or DC.

Core Responsibilities
Client Assessment and Support
  • Conduct initial and comprehensive psychosocial assessments to determine client needs and goals.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling or therapy sessions, often co-facilitating with a licensed professional.
  • Assist clients in adjusting to life challenges such as illness, unemployment, or family issues.
  • Observe and assist in crisis intervention procedures.
Case Management and Resource Coordination
  • Develop and implement service or treatment plans.
  • Research, refer, and advocate for community resources, such as housing, food assistance, healthcare, and childcare.
  • Monitor client progress and ensure compliance with treatment plans and agency guidelines.
Documentation and Administration
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely client records, case files, and progress notes to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Manage and organize an assigned caseload of clients.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as organizing documents and updating records.
Team Collaboration and Professional Development
  • Participate actively in team meetings, case conferences, and supervision sessions (both individual and group).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, teachers, and other support staff.
  • Attend and occasionally lead training sessions or workshops on relevant topics like assessment techniques, ethical practices, and cultural competency.
QualificationsKey Skills and Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or Master of Social Work (MSW) degree program.
Soft Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple clients and paperwork.
