Job summary

Cook Children's seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Plastic Surgery team. The NP/PA performs surgical functions in a collaborative practice with physicians in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

You will autonomously assess, diagnose, and intervene per approved protocols and develop your own patient panel under physician supervision. Responsibilities include clinic and call coverage, with potential for rounding for physicians during absences.

Qualifications

  • APRN or PA with required master’s degree; pediatric experience preferred.
  • Pediatric nursing or related specialty experience (1 year) preferred.
  • Current Texas license for APRN or PA required; CPR/PALS/ACLS as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with plastic surgery physicians in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Autonomously assess, diagnose, and intervene per approved protocols.
  • Develop and maintain own patient panel under physician supervision; provide clinic and call coverage.
  • Assist in surgery when appropriate and prescribe modalities as needed.

Summary

Cook Children's is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Plastic Surgery team. The NP/PA, Surgical functions in a collaborative practice with physician(s) in the outpatient and inpatient setting. Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention according to approved protocols. Develops and maintains own volume of patients under the supervision of a physician. Provides practice/clinic/call coverage and may round for physician(s) during periods of absence. Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including hospital rounding/consultation, assisting in surgery if appropriate and prescriptive authority.

Education and Experience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses Master’s Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred. Physician Assistants Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies and minimum 1 year of experience in related specialized area strongly preferred.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses Current Texas professional registered nurse license Current Texas professional advanced practice registered nurse license Certified as an RNFA preferred Certified as a Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Current Basic Life Support (CPR) is required. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery Pediatric nurse practitioner acute care certification required when assigned to Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Pediatric Surgery/Trauma Physician Assistants Current Texas professional physician assistant license. Certified as a PA-C Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required. Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery
