Job summary

Cook Children's Health Care System is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for an inpatient Hematology/Oncology unit in Fort Worth, Texas. The candidate will work in collaboration with a pediatric oncology team to assess, diagnose and treat complex cases.

Experience in pediatric hematology/oncology is preferred; strong procedural skills and prescriptive authority are required. A Master's degree in nursing (APRN) or PA studies is essential, with Texas licensure and CPR/PALS

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required for APRN or PA licensure.
  • Texas RN/APRN or PA-CA licensure required.
  • Pediatric experience is preferred; 2+ years in pediatrics is ideal.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with physicians in inpatient hematology/oncology.
  • Perform assessments, diagnoses and interventions per approved protocols.
  • Prescribe modalities and manage hospital admissions/discharges as needed.
  • Provide coverage for physicians during absences.
  • Perform procedures including bone marrow aspirates/biopsies and LPs.

Summary

We are searching for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who is motivated to work with Hematology/Oncology patients on a busy inpatient unit.

This full-time position will support our general Oncology population.

Prior Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.

Functions
  • Functions in collaborative practice with physician(s) in the inpatient setting for medically complex oncology patients.
  • Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention according to approved protocols.
  • Supports physician to develop and maintain patients. Collaborates with specialties and maintains continuity of care.
  • Provides coverage for physician(s) during periods of absence.
  • Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including hospital admission/discharge and prescriptive authority.
  • Perform procedures including but not limited to bone marrow aspirates and biopsies and lumbar punctures.
Education/Experience
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
  • Master's Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred.
Physician Assistants
  • Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years Pediatric primary/specialty or acute care setting experience OR 2 years' experience in related allied health field (i.e. family practice setting with heavy component of pediatric patients) strongly preferred.
Certification/Licensure
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
  • Current Texas professional registered nurse license
  • Current Texas professional advance practice registered nurse license
  • Recognition from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Certification as Pediatric or Family Practice Nurse Practitioner
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred*
Physician Assistants
  • Current Texas professional physician assistant license
  • Recognition from the Texas State Medical Board as a Physician Assistant.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant PA-C required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred*

* PALS certification is required when assigned to Anesthesiology, Care Team, Complex Care, Fostering Health, H/O, Nephrology, and Neurology departments.
