Job summary

Cook Children’s Health Care System seeks a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant in the Surgical track within Prosper Plastic Surgery. The role functions in a collaborative practice with physicians in outpatient and inpatient settings, autonomously assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients per approved protocols.

You’ll develop your own patient volume under physician supervision and may provide rounds or surgical assistance as needed. Call schedule: 2 weeks per month.

Qualifications

  • APRN Master’s in Nursing with 1+ year pediatric nursing experience preferred.
  • PA Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies with 1+ year experience in pediatric or related area preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Functions in outpatient and inpatient settings in collaboration with physicians.
  • Performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention per protocols.
  • Provides clinic/call coverage and may round for physicians when needed.
  • Prescribes modalities and supports hospital rounding/consultation and surgery when appropriate.

Education And Experience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

Master’s Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred.

Physician Assistants

Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies and minimum 1 year of experience in related specialized area strongly preferred.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
  • Current Texas professional registered nurse license
  • Current Texas professional advanced practice registered nurse license
  • Certified as an RNFA preferred
  • Certified as a Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) is required.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Pediatric nurse practitioner acute care certification required when assigned to Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Pediatric Surgery/Trauma
Physician Assistants
  • Current Texas professional physician assistant license.
  • Certified as a PA-C
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery
