Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is recruiting a Clinical Instructor – Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to supervise the Infusion center at Stony Brook Cancer Center in Centereach, NY. The APP will work in the Medicine - Division of Hematology & Oncology and report to the Division Chief.

Responsibilities include managing infusion reactions, reviewing infusion orders, assessing patients, and coordinating chemotherapy care in a fast-paced cancer infusion clinic.

Qualifications

• Current NYS RN license.
• Master's degree in Nursing required.
• NYS license and certification as an adult and/or family nurse practitioner or Physician Assistant's degree with NYS license and certification.

Responsibilities

• Manage infusion reactions and treat as appropriate.
• Review infusion orders for clarity and modify as necessary.
• Independently assess and evaluate patients in the infusion clinic.
• Review, evaluate, and make recommendations on laboratory findings.
• Manage chemotherapy complications including orders.
• Manage outpatient calls including toxicity assessments.
• Provide coverage for sick walk-ins.
• Educate patients and families on chemo toxicities.
• Knowledge of EMR and hospital information systems.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the management and treatment of cancer patients. Excellent communication skills. Experience with chemotherapy toxicities and infusion reactions.

Salary Range: $115,000-$137,000 annually

Position Requirements

The APP will report to the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology. Responsibilities may include all or some of the following:

• Manage infusion reactions and treat as appropriate
• Review infusion orders for clarity and modify as necessary
• Independently assess and evaluate patients in the infusion clinic of Stony Brook Cancer Center who present with new or progressive symptoms/signs
• Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory findings for patients seen in the infusion center.
• Manage complications of chemotherapy including writing/editing chemotherapy orders.
• Manage outpatient phone calls including toxicity assessments and recommendations.
• Provide coverage and management for sick walk-ins.
• Educate patients and family members regarding chemotherapy toxicities
• Knowledge of basic software packages and hospital information systems (EMR).
• Additional responsibilities may also be required as the position evolves over time.

Shift Days

Tags Full time, Monday-Friday, required 5 days per week.

Salary Range $115,000-$137,000 annually
