Job summary

The Children's Guild in Baltimore, MD is hiring a School Social Worker to support students, families, and staff in a trauma-informed, therapeutic environment. You will provide counseling, assess needs, and connect families to community resources.

Must hold an MSW and Maryland licensure; 2–5 years in school-based or child welfare settings preferred. This full-time role offers comprehensive benefits, professional supervision toward licensure, and mileage reimbursement for home visits.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program is required.
• Active licensure in Maryland (LCSW-C, LCSW, LMSW or working toward full licensure) is required.
• 2–5 years of experience in a school-based, child welfare, or community-based setting.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, IDEA, and 504 regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling to students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments and contribute to IEP and 504 planning.
• Connect families to community resources, wraparound services, and crisis support.
• Support attendance intervention efforts and chronic absenteeism reduction.
• Collaborate with teachers, clinicians, administrators, and families to support student well-being.
• Serve as a student advocate—ensuring every child's voice is heard and their needs are met.
• Facilitate family meetings, home visits, and community outreach as needed.
• Support crisis assessment, safety planning, and de-escalation in collaboration with the school team.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with COMAR, HIPAA, and agency standards.

The Opportunity

As a School Social Worker, you will be an essential member of our multidisciplinary team — connecting students and families to the support they need inside and outside the school.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program (required)
• Active licensure in Maryland (LCSW-C, LCSW, LMSW, or working toward full licensure)
• 2–5 years of experience in a school‑based, child welfare, or community‑based setting
• Knowledge of trauma‑informed practices, IDEA, and 504 regulations
• Strong assessment, counseling, and case management skills
• Familiarity with COMAR and Maryland child welfare regulations
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for home and community visits
• Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
