Job Summary:

Oliver / Hatcher Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to support construction projects across the Midwest. This field-based role works closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent from mobilization through final close-out. The Project Engineer helps keep information, materials, quality requirements, schedules, and field activities organized and moving forward.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career construction professional who is detail-oriented, comfortable working on an active job site, and eager to develop broad experience in project management and field operations.

  • Safety & Site Operations
    • Support the Superintendent and project team in implementing site-specific safety requirements and company procedures.
    • Conduct subcontractor safety orientations and routine site observations; promptly communicate observed hazards or noncompliance to the Superintendent.
    • Maintain safety records, SDS documentation, required signage, and barricades, and help promote site cleanliness and organized material staging.
    • Participate in jobsite meetings, pre-task planning, and coordination discussions as assigned.
  • Document Control & Communication
    • Maintain current drawings, specifications, bulletins, RFIs, submittals, logs, meeting minutes, and field records within the company’s project management systems.
    • Prepare and route RFIs; review submittals for completeness and general consistency with the contract documents before submission to the design team.
    • Distribute approved information to affected team members and trade partners and confirm that field teams are working from current documents.
    • Document scope changes and extra work, including time-and-material tickets, pricing requests, subcontractor quotations, and change-event support documentation.
  • Schedule, Procurement & Field Coordination
    • Assist with daily reports, progress photos, three-week look-ahead schedules, milestone tracking, and subcontractor productivity reporting.
    • Maintain procurement and material-status logs; follow up on submittals, fabrication, delivery dates, and long-lead items that could affect the schedule.
    • Coordinate with subcontractors regarding labor, materials, access, inspections, and near‑term work activities.
    • Support field layout, site logistics, and coordination among trades as directed by the Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Quality, Cost, and Close‑Out
    • Support quality‑control activities, including preparatory meetings, mockups, inspection tracking, testing documentation, deficiency lists, and verification of completed corrections.
    • Assist with quantity verification, bid‑package and buyout support, subcontractor scope reviews, cost coding, commitment and change tracking, and review of payment‑support documentation as assigned.
    • Create and track punch‑list items through completion and maintain required close‑out documentation.
    • Coordinate warranties, operations and maintenance manuals, attic stock, owner training, as‑built documents, and final close‑out deliverables.

Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field; equivalent construction education and experience may be considered.
  • Internship, co‑op, or construction jobsite experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project software; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction technology is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, schedules, submittals, and other construction documents—or demonstrated ability to learn.
  • Strong organization, follow‑through, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgment, professional curiosity, and a proactive, team‑oriented approach.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced field environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned job sites. OSHA 10‑or 30‑hour training is preferred; required training will be provided.
