Job summary

Withum is seeking an Outsourced Accounting Manager in Buffalo, NY, a hybrid role (3 days in office). You will oversee a team servicing not-for-profit clients, manage month-end close, payroll, AP, and financial reporting, and partner with client leadership to drive actionable insights.

The ideal candidate has 5–7+ years in progressive accounting, CPA or MBA preferred, and strong communication skills. Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, and NetSuite experience are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• CPA preferred and/or MBA equivalent.
• 5-7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership and review responsibilities.
• Experience with outsourced accounting, advisory, public accounting, or consulting.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for non-finance stakeholders.
• Experience with not-for-profit clients is a plus.
• Proficient in Excel and data validation.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team; assign work, review deliverables, and coach for development.
• Oversee AP workflows and approve vendor/contractor payments with supporting docs.
• Review payroll processing and filings with client HR/payroll providers.
• Lead month-end close with journal entries and reconciliations.
• Review and approve journal entries and ensure proper supporting details.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve variances.
• Support budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and performance analytics.
• Coordinate with client leadership as day-to-day contact; communicate status and risks.
• Facilitate external reviews and audits; manage auditor requests.
• Strengthen internal controls and drive process improvements across AP/AR/GL.
