Charles P. Johnson & Associates, Inc. (CPJ) seeks an experienced Operations Manager to lead the private land development office in Fairfax, Virginia.

This role oversees day-to-day operations, staff development, and financial performance, reporting to the Director of Operations and office leadership. The successful candidate will foster client relationships, drive growth, and strengthen CPJ’s presence in Northern Virginia through strategic networking and project leadership across engineering,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, construction management, operations, or related discipline.
• Significant leadership experience within civil engineering, land development, architecture/engineering, construction, consulting, or related services.
• Experience with private-sector land development clients (developers, builders, architects).
• Strong understanding of project-based professional services operations.
• Ability to develop employees, strengthen teams, and lead through organizational change.
• Strong business and financial acumen with experience managing financial performance.
• Ability to build client and professional relationships and contribute to business development.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities with accountability.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operations of the Fairfax office with coordination across functions.
• Set priorities, expectations, and accountability for office operations.
• Oversee performance and implement changes to improve efficiency, project delivery, client service, and financial results.
• Strengthen collaboration across engineering, surveying, administrative, and other functions.
• Develop employees through mentorship and meaningful growth opportunities.
• Identify staffing needs, recruit key talent, and build the team to support workload and growth.
• Monitor revenue, budgets, billing, and financial performance.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for long-term health.
• Represent CPJ in Fairfax County and the Northern Virginia business community.
• Expand CPJ's professional network and pursue new business opportunities.
