Job Specification

To ensure that the Division of North America operates effective Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures by providing expert advice and support to all the Division’s Business Units.

Scope

A new and exciting varied role has been developed within the group risk management and quality department. Provide guidance and advice to all colleagues, offering health, safety, and environmental advice to general managers, site/location, and field operatives to assist them in achieving business HSE objectives. This role involves both on-site auditing and office work, including training of fall protection installers and recertification technicians. Conduct audits of our business units, installers, subcontractors, and recertification technicians both on-site and off-site. The role involves up to 60% travel within the USA and Canada and is a mobile role involving work away from home.

This is an extremely varied role and requires a dedicated, articulate individual with sound industry knowledge, good communication skills, and excellent computer skills.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Developing, implementing, updating, and maintaining health, safety, environmental (HSE) policies and procedures in line with legislative requirements, best management practice, and Group directives.
  2. Providing expert HSE advice and information to management on the requirements of health, safety, and environmental legislation and best practices.
  3. Ensuring full compliance with the Global Regulations covering heating, lighting, ventilation at work, safe use of computer screens and keyboards, handling heavy or awkward loads, rest periods, and personal protective equipment.
  4. Facilitating HSE training to all employees, including HSE Induction Training.
  5. Completing, under the direction of the Group HSE Director, an annual program of HSE safety audits covering all sites within North America.
  6. Measuring, monitoring, and reporting on HSE performance across all sites.
  7. Assisting others in investigating accidents, environmental incidents, and serious near misses, and taking necessary steps to prevent recurrence.
  8. Facilitating reporting to the given authority any reporting requirements of the Company’s operations.
  9. Ensuring OSHA/Can OSH/CCOHS compliance.
  10. Liaising with external health, safety, and environmental regulators and public emergency services in both routine and emergency situations.
  11. Consulting with BU employees on EHS issues and supporting and developing the role of the BUs’ EHS Committees.
  12. Working with Managers and staff to ensure risk assessments and safe operating procedures are prepared and reviewed as necessary.
  13. Conducting installer and subcontractor installation team audits, inspections, and monitoring.
  14. Performing PPE inspections as required.
  15. Completing any other project-related duties as required by the NA President.

Requirements

Education, Experience, and Skills

  1. Must have at least five years of health, safety, and environmental experience at a management level with quality auditing experience.
  2. Extensive knowledge of current OSHA / Canadian OHS regulations is required.
  3. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Excel BI.
  4. Associate/Bachelor level education required; however, 5 years of direct management experience will be considered.
  5. Experience in maintaining a Health, Safety and Environment Management System, e.g., ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  6. Certifications such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP) to move onto Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) are preferred.
  7. Advanced knowledge of fall protection standards in both the general and construction industries.
  8. Experience with the implementation and monitoring of safety in the field as well as facility experience.
  9. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable record.

  14. Able to delegate safety responsibilities to supervisors and managers.
