Job summary

Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center is seeking an enthusiastic Nordic Instructor to deliver high-quality coaching in both classic and skate techniques, across group and private clinics. You will engage diverse learners, prioritize safety, and adapt to varying conditions while promoting a fun, team-oriented environment.

This role requires PSIA certification and strong customer service skills, with shifts varying through the season and opportunities to assist with events and lodge operations.

Qualifications

  • PSIA Certification is required and wage varies by certification.
  • Advanced diagonal stride and skate skiing ability is required.
  • Ability to teach to a variety of learning styles and provide excellent customer service.

Position Summary

The Nordic Instructor provides excellent customer service to all guests through safe, effective, and dynamic coaching and leadership in all types of Nordic ski clinics and programs at Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center. This position requires the ability to communicate with many types of people and teach to a variety of learning styles. Instructors should be reasonably fit and have advanced ski ability in both diagonal stride classic ski and skate ski disciplines and be committed to ongoing professional training. Additional duties may include assisting with Nordic Center events, providing relief to the rental/ retail and gate check staff, and helping with lodge upkeep and operations as needed. Length of shift varies throughout the season.

Essential Functions
  • Teach diagonal stride and skate ski techniques to group clinics, private clinics, and special programs as assigned
  • Start classes on time and manage lesson time effectively.
  • Match demos, pace, terrain, and style to student needs.
  • Speak clearly, check for understanding, and listen carefully.
  • Use positive, enthusiastic expressions and body language.
  • Emphasize safety, control, efficiency, ease, and FUN.
  • Show problem-solving skills and flexibility.
  • Close the lesson confirming progress and offering opportunity for next lesson.
  • Attend and participate in all required clinics.
  • Complete accident/incident reports.
  • Keep ski equipment updated and in good repair.
  • Show initiative in and acceptance of all teaching assignments.
Secondary Function
  • Manage student groups for special clinics.
  • Assist with set-up, execution, and break-down of events, night events, or races.
  • Assist with special projects and events per manager.
Non-Teach (in all weather conditions)
  • Act as an on-snow ambassador.
  • Provide information and assistance to all guests.
  • Assist with snow shoveling, ice chipping, and outside work.
  • Assist with other projects as assigned.
Job Scope

Responsible for providing exceptional customer service while leading all assigned clinics in a safe and effective manner, generating return business, and assisting in all facets of the Nordic Center operation as needed.

Interpersonal Contacts

Guests, Nordic Staff in all positions, Ski Patrol, Ski School Specific Job Skills License/Certifications- Wage is based on PSIA Certification. Technical- Advanced skiing ability - both classic and skate. Able to describe and demonstrate all aspects of Nordic ski technique. Physical Capabilities- Able to stand/work outside for an extended amount of time in all weather conditions. Additionally, every position at Mt. Bachelor requires the ability to shovel snow and walk on steep and uneven surfaces.

Current Hiring Rate: $16.50-19.50/hr (Dependent upon PSIA Certification)
