Job summary

The American Swedish Institute seeks a Handcraft Programs Coordinator to support a range of handcraft programming for youth, families, and adults. This role involves content development, on/off-site delivery, and coordinating staff, volunteers, and contracted instructors to ensure exceptional guest experiences.

As part of the ASI Programs team, you will implement engaging curricula, manage materials, ensure safety, and collaborate with marketing to promote programs across campus and events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Humanities/Arts, Education, Scandinavian Studies with 2-4 years of programming, teaching or related field OR equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and skilled practitioner of traditional handcraft.
  • 1-3 years teaching experience in experiential or folk education programming.
  • Experience working safely with children, youth, and adult learners, and following safety policies.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, and coordinate programs and staff clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to read and understand contracts.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours including weekends/evenings for programs.
  • Proficient using MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and develop the annual handcraft program plan with the Cultural Program Manager.
  • Serve as primary contact for teaching artists, staff, and volunteers throughout planning, execution, and closing.
  • Adhere to budget and collect/prepare program materials and content.
  • Coordinate administrative processes for document reviews and sign-offs.
  • Maintain documentation and evaluation materials for handcraft programs.
  • Collaborate with programs managers and marketing to promote programs and events.
  • Support artist markets, demonstrations, and activities for major events.
  • Support Malmberg Scholarship and Fellowship Program coordination.
  • Represent ASI at offsite events for community engagement purposes.
  • Design and develop age-appropriate Nordic handcraft curricula.
  • Prepare materials and classroom spaces for all program needs.
  • Present Nordic Handcraft programs onsite and offsite to various audiences.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed when using tools.
  • Provide excellent customer service for onsite and virtual programming.
  • Coordinate registrations and admissions with Operations team.
  • Schedule program activities with staff, volunteers, and instructors.
  • Onboard volunteers, instructors, and guest artists; provide day-of support.
  • Assist with other events, exhibitions, and campus programs as needed.
  • Participate in non-traditional hours as required for programs.
