Job summary

The American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis is seeking a part-time Retail Sales Associate to assist shoppers in the Museum Store and Julshop during the holiday season. You will handle sales, restock inventory, and provide friendly, knowledgeable service to every customer.

You will operate the POS system, answer questions, and help train volunteers while maintaining a clean, organized store and engaging displays under the Museum Store Manager.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Hours Per Week: Part-time 12-15 hours per week

Hybrid or On Site: On Site

Language proficiency: English. Proficiency/familiarity with another language is a plus but not required.

Schedule: Tuesday and Sunday 9:30 am to 4:15 pm (required)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Retail Sales Associate is responsible for processing sales transactions, restocking inventory, and providing outstanding customer service to ASI shoppers The Retail Sales Associate will be welcoming to all customers, providing information on products, answering questions and assisting with merchandize selection in the Museum store as well as the Julshop which is open during the holiday season.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Responsible for providing sales assistance to Museum Store visitors and customers including answering questions, locating merchandise, and facilitating the sales process. Creates a positive environment for visitors and customers.
• Operate POS and electronic scanning equipment to record sales. Collect cash, checks, or process credit card transactions for purchases, and follows ASI cash handling policies.
• Restock inventory as needed, utilizing the daily sales analysis report.
• Assist in the training and development of Museum Store volunteers, ensuring they follow the Volunteer Agreement guidelines.
• Verify all facilities and P.O.S. equipment is in the proper working order. Report any repairs as necessary to the Retail Manager.
• Maintain a clean and organized store and breakroom.
• Maintain an awareness of all promotions and events.
• Help to create and maintain a visually appealing store display under the direction of the Museum Store Manager.

Requirements

REQUIRED

• 2+ years retail experience.
• H.S. Diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of basic math to count accurate change and sales.
• Basic computer skills to operate the POS, ability to learn and understand SOP’s in order to troubleshoot by thinking through the process.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrating ability to speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations.
• Demonstrate ability to take initiative, prioritize and plan work activities and uses time efficiently.
• Demonstrate ability to adapt to changing work environments while managing multiple competing priorities.
• Demonstrate ability to provide outstanding customer service by identifying and focusing on customer needs/requests, resolving conflict.
• Demonstrate ability to follow through on projects in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended period of time.
• Interest in Swedish/Scandinavian cultures a plus
