The role requires 3+ years in nonprofit finance, with experience in grant reporting and cost allocations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day oversight of finance and administrative functions, including accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Manage nonprofit accounting activities, including cost allocation across programs and funding sources.
  • Oversee grant financial reporting and ensure expenditures align with grant requirements.
  • Review financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and other reports for accuracy, identifying discrepancies and risks.
  • Partner with leadership on financial planning and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Provide guidance to staff and maintain internal controls during leadership transition.

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Nonprofit Finance Manager for an established nonprofit organization in Chicago, Illinois. This is a full-time, onsite temporary opportunity anticipated to last approximately 2–3 months, with an immediate need. The Nonprofit Finance Manager will provide hands-on financial leadership and day-to-day oversight during an organizational transition. This position is ideal for an experienced nonprofit finance professional who can step into an established operation quickly, maintain continuity, and confidently oversee accounting, grant reporting, budgeting, financial reporting, and month-end close.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide day-to-day oversight of finance and administrative functions, including accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Manage nonprofit accounting activities, including appropriate cost allocation of shared expenses across programs and funding sources.
  • Oversee grant financial reporting and ensure expenditures and financial activity align with applicable grant requirements and funding restrictions.
  • Review financial statements, reconciliations, budgets, forecasts, and other financial reports for accuracy and completeness while identifying discrepancies, risks, and process gaps.
  • Partner with organizational leadership on financial planning, analysis, and decision-making while translating financial information into actionable insights.
  • Provide guidance to finance staff, maintain appropriate internal controls and financial procedures, and ensure continuity of financial operations throughout the leadership transition.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years of finance experience within a nonprofit organization required.
  • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit accounting, cost allocation, and grant financial reporting required.
  • Experience overseeing financial operations, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
COMPENSATION AND LOCATION

This full-time temporary position offers $38.00–$40.00 per hour and is expected to last approximately 2–3 months. The position is fully onsite in Chicago, IL 60645, working Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. The organization is seeking someone who can start as soon as possible and step into the finance function seamlessly to ensure continued operations during a leadership transition.
