Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC has partnered with a mission-driven organization in New Haven to recruit an Assistant Director of Finance. The role leads day-to-day accounting, oversees endowment and donor-restricted funds, supports budgeting, audits, and reporting to leadership and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years in nonprofit finance, strong GAAP knowledge, and a relevant Master’s degree (CPA/CMA preferred).

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience in the nonprofit sector.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
• Master's degree in a relevant field or 5+ years of finance management experience.
• Experience with cloud-based financial systems, preferably Sage Intacct, BILL, and Blackbaud.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, and cash management.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports for leadership and external stakeholders.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, compliance processes, and financial policies.
• Support annual budgeting, year-end close, and external audit activities.
• Manage endowment accounting, donor-restricted funds, and Yale-related financial transactions.
• Evaluate and improve financial systems, workflows, and reporting processes.
