SpectrumCareers is seeking a Director of Finance & Administration for a prominent nonprofit in Washington, DC. The role partners with Executive leadership to ensure sound financial management, compliance, transparency, and long-term fiscal sustainability.

Key responsibilities include overseeing accounting and administrative operations, budgeting, grant management, audits, and internal controls, while leading a dedicated finance team to strengthen the organization’s financial infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, ideally in nonprofit settings.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, budgeting, reporting, and grant management.
  • Experience with government/foundation grants, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with accounting/ERP systems and advanced Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting, finance, and administrative operations.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close, general ledger, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Manage annual budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis.
  • Oversee nonprofit fund accounting, including restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Manage grant accounting and reporting for government, foundation, and other funding sources.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, nonprofit standards, and grant requirements.
  • Coordinate the annual financial statement audit and Form 990 preparation.
  • Maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis for the Executive Director, Board, and Finance Committee.
  • Partner with program and operational leaders to monitor budgets and fund use.
  • Oversee HR, benefits, contracts, and vendor relationships where applicable.
  • Lead and develop finance/administrative staff and identify process improvements.

An established non-profit organization, is seeking a Director of Finance & Administration.

This role will partner closely with the Executive and senior leadership to ensure sound financial management, compliance, transparency, and long-term fiscal sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop finance and administrative staff while identifying opportunities to improve processes and systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA (highly preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and grant management.
  • Experience with government and/or foundation grants, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with accounting/ERP systems and advanced Excel.

The successful candidate will bring financial discipline, strategic perspective, and operational leadership to the organization. They will be comfortable moving between high-level financial strategy and hands-on accounting, while serving as a trusted partner to organizational leadership and ensuring the nonprofit has the financial infrastructure, controls, and reporting needed to achieve its mission.
