Job summary

HANA Center in the Chicago area is seeking a Development Associate to join the development team and advance fundraising programs across individuals, corporations, foundations, government entities, and organizations.

Under the Senior Manager of Development, you will draft proposals, coordinate donor communications, and help manage grants, events, and donor databases, contributing to HANA's mission of immigrant and community empowerment.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and social, racial, and economic justice
  • A belief in communities’ ability to support each other, organize, and achieve desired goals together
  • Preferred experience working with community-based organizations, especially those focused on issues related to Korean American, Asian American, immigrant communities and/or social, economic, and racial justice
  • Minimum 2 years of fundraising and/or grant writing experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, accuracy, and proven track record of meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency in using technology and systems to maximize efficiency and impact
  • Ability to build partnerships and gain consensus with co-workers, volunteer leaders, and peers
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, think creatively, and problem solve with a commitment to continued learning
  • Prior experience with EveryAction or comparable donor management software is an asset
  • Proficiency in using design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a car, and ability to travel to both HANA offices and for events as needed
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Bilingual in Korean, both verbal and written, is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Work within a development team to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective donors
  • Draft and edit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and reports working closely with HANA Team Leads to gather relevant information
  • Research demographic and other relevant information to strengthen grant proposals
  • Participate in funder meetings as requested, documenting notes and next steps
  • Assist and lead segments of work for fundraising events including HANA’s annual MODU Gala, end of the year holiday donations, and other donor stewardship and cultivation events
  • Help track sponsors and individual outreach for fundraising events
  • Organize and maintain accurate and comprehensive fundraising databases, grant calendar and files, and donor records
  • Ensure timely acknowledgment of donations, including production and distribution of thank you letters and calls
  • Assist in creating and writing content for donor communications
  • Attend and participate in community meetings and other activities as needed
  • Participate in and complete all required trainings
  • Other duties as assigned
