Job summary

HANA Center in Chicago, IL is seeking an Accounting Associate to support day-to-day accounting and grant/voucher processing. You will prepare monthly grant vouchers, code invoices, process expenditures, and assist with monthly reconciliations, reporting, and audits.

We require an associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, 1 year of accounting experience, and proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel. This role is hybrid, with some evenings/weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 1 year of experience in accounting or finance (preferred).
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with government contracts and vouchering preferred.
  • Bilingual in Korean and/or Spanish is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly grant vouchers and reimbursement submissions.
  • Review, code, and process vendor invoices and staff expense reports.
  • Make bank deposits and record multi-sourced deposits.
  • Assist with monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and credit cards.
  • Monitor grant budgets and assist with revisions as needed.
  • Support financial audits with required information and reports.
  • Generate financial reports and maintain records and files.
  • Maintain internal controls across financial systems.

Job description

Position Summary

The Accounting Associate is a vital member of HANA’s finance team and is responsible for day-to-day accounting and grant/contract vouchering. A successful Accounting Associate provides critical support to all HANA programs and services, enabling the organization to meet its mission and serve the community.

Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly grant vouchers and reimbursement submissions
  • Review, correctly code, and process vendor invoices and employee expense reports for payment
  • Make bank deposits for checks and cash received
  • Record multi-sourced deposits
  • Assist with monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts
  • Monitor grant budget to actual expenditures and assist with budget revisions as necessary
  • Support organizational and contract-specific financial audits, providing necessary information and reports to auditors
  • Generate financial reports and statements as requested
  • Maintain orderly and up-to-date financial records and files, both online and hard copy
  • Maintain accounting procedures, policies, and systems of internal controls to ensure the integrity of all financial systems
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training, and supervisory sessions
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and social, economic, and racial justice
  • Belief in communities’ ability to support each other, heal, organize, and achieve desired goals together
  • Experience working on Korean American, Asian American, immigrant community issues, and/or social, economic, and racial justice issues preferred
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 1 year of experience in accounting or finance (preferred)
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Quickbooks preferred) and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Prior experience with government contracts and vouchering at the local and state levels preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bilingual proficiency in Korean and/or Spanish is an asset
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required
Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $45,000-$55,000 per year

Additional Information

Reports to: Senior Manager of Finance

Schedule: Monday to Friday, weekends as needed

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Chicago, IL; relocation to Chicago, IL required before starting work.
