Job summary

The Mountain Sky Conference of The United Methodist Church seeks a Controller to oversee accounting functions, payroll, and financial reporting. You will work with the Conference Treasurer to prepare statements, regulatory reports, and audit documentation, ensuring GAAP compliance and strong controls.

Hybrid role based in the Denver, CO area with travel and in-office days as required. Requires a Bachelor’s in accounting, 5+ years in nonprofit/ church accounting, and CPA preference.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; advanced degree preferred.
• Five+ years in a Controller role, nonprofit or church accounting preferred.
• CPA and experience with Financial Edge are valued.
• GAAP knowledge and strong Excel skills required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting processes and ensure transparency and accountability.
• Prepare financial reports for the Treasurer and audit documentation.
• Manage payroll, A/P and A/R, and monthly book closures.
• Coordinate annual audit with CMA and oversee subsidiary reporting.
• Lead staff supervision and support church accounting practices.
• Assist in budgeting and financial management of grants.
