Job summary

The Robert Joseph Group, a Washington, DC-based accounting and finance resource firm, seeks a Controller, Vice President for a nonprofit client in the DC area. You will lead a large accounting team, ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting, and strengthen internal controls while partnering with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with substantial nonprofit sector focus.
• Minimum of 5 years of people-management experience, preferably leading a sizeable accounting team.
• Public accounting experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, U.S. GAAP, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting including donor contributions, endowments, and functional expense allocation.
• Working knowledge of nonprofit tax and regulatory reporting (Form 990, etc.).
• Proven ability to lead accounting operations and collaborate with senior leadership and external auditors.

Responsibilities

• Direct, manage, and coordinate the organization’s accounting operations and reporting.
• Oversee data consolidation for organizational, combined, and consolidated reporting.
• Deliver timely financial information to evaluate performance against budgets and forecasts.
• Lead, develop, and mentor a large accounting team.
• Lead annual financial statement audit and liaise with external auditors.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and internal controls; oversee regulatory filings (IRS forms, etc.).
• Collaborate with finance leadership on shared services, cost allocations, and donor reporting.
