Job summary

OHDC in Gresham, OR, seeks a Controller / Sr. Accounting Manager to build and lead the accounting function for a mission-driven organization. You will oversee day-to-day accounting, strengthen internal controls, mentor staff, and enhance financial reporting to support critical services for farmworker communities.

The role combines technical accounting with leadership, process improvement, and collaboration with senior finance leadership, offering a path to broader finance leadership within OHDC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent.
• Progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility.
• Experience leading accounting staff.
• Strong nonprofit accounting knowledge.
• Experience with grant accounting and fund accounting.
• Experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with accounting systems; familiarity with MIP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
• Ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
• Oversee GL, reconciliations, payroll, AP/AR, and cash management.
• Strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
• Support audits and Single Audit prep with Director of Finance.
• Manage accounting for grant funding across government and private sources.
• Ensure grant compliance and reporting.
• Coordinate grant budgeting and monitoring.
• Collaborate with program leadership to improve financial visibility.
• Lead and develop the accounting team.
• Provide coaching and professional development.
• Establish clear roles and accountability.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration.
• Build bench strength through training, esp. with MIP.
