Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is seeking a Controller to lead the nonprofit’s accounting and financial operations from a strategic position with regular engagement with senior leadership and the Board.

The role emphasizes strong GAAP expertise, budgeting, and internal controls in a mission-driven environment. You’ll mentor staff, oversee audits, and help shape financial strategy in a balanced, collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• Nonprofit accounting experience is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Excellent communication with executives and Board members.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee accounting and financial reporting functions.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Prepare and review accurate financial statements and management reports.
• Oversee the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, and reconciliations.
• Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors.
• Develop and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, and projections.
• Provide financial analysis to senior leadership to support decision-making.
• Prepare financial reports and presentations for the Board and leadership team.
• Establish and maintain internal controls and accounting policies.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit reporting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, systems, and reporting.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to accounting staff.
• Participate in strategic initiatives and special projects.

• CPA designation or CPA-track experience is a plus.
