About the Role:

As a Nonprofit Accounting Associate at Rektio, you will work directly with our Nonprofit Accounting Success Advisors to support the delivery of high-quality accounting services to our mission-driven clients. You'll help implement and maintain financial systems that enable nonprofits to focus on their missions while ensuring financial compliance and clarity. This role combines technical accounting skills with an understanding of the unique needs of nonprofit organizations.

Responsibilities & Expectations

Financial Management Support:

  • Execute day-to-day accounting functions for nonprofit clients, including bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Assist with fund accounting and grant tracking to ensure proper allocation of restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Help prepare financial statements that comply with nonprofit accounting standards
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain organized documentation of financial transactions and reporting

Client Service Excellence:

  • Respond promptly to client inquiries and requests with professionalism and accuracy
  • Develop understanding of each client's mission, programs, and specific financial requirements
  • Prepare materials for client meetings and assist with financial presentations
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within client accounting systems
  • Build strong working relationships with clients through consistent, clear communication

Compliance & Reporting Support:

  • Help maintain grant compliance through proper documentation and expense tracking
  • Support the creation of board financial packages and funder reports
  • Ensure adherence to nonprofit accounting best practices
  • Stay current on nonprofit accounting regulations and compliance requirements

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Nonprofit Accounting Success Advisors to deliver seamless client service
  • Contribute to team knowledge-sharing on nonprofit accounting best practices
  • Help implement standardized processes across the nonprofit client portfolio
  • Participate in training on nonprofit-specific accounting software and tools
  • Assist with client onboarding and setup of accounting systems

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit sector
  • Understanding of fund accounting principles and nonprofit financial reporting
  • Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar)
  • Knowledge of grant management and restricted fund tracking
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Passion for supporting mission-driven organizations
