Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking an experienced Non-QM Mortgage Underwriter to join our dynamic remote team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing residential mortgage applications that do not meet standard Qualified Mortgage (QM) guidelines. This role involves assessing risk, ensuring compliance with investor and company standards, and providing clear decisions to support our mortgage operations. If you are a detail-oriented professional with strong underwriting expertise in Non-QM products, this is an excellent opportunity to work in a flexible, remote environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and underwrite Non-QM mortgage loan applications, including income, assets, credit history, and property documentation.

• Ensure compliance with company, investor, and regulatory guidelines for Non-QM lending.

• Identify and mitigate potential risks while maintaining efficiency and accuracy in loan decisioning.

• Communicate underwriting decisions to loan officers, processors, and management teams clearly and professionally.

• Collaborate with the operations team to resolve conditions and documentation issues efficiently.

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Non-QM lending guidelines, trends, and regulatory changes.

• Provide recommendations to enhance underwriting processes and risk management practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong understanding of Non-QM loan products, DSCR, bank statement loans, asset depletion, and ITIN programs.

• Proficiency in loan origination systems (LOS) and document review tools.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong time management and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced remote environment.

Experience

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a mortgage underwriter, with at least 2 years in Non-QM underwriting.

• Prior experience working in a remote underwriting role is preferred.

• Familiarity with investor and wholesale lending environments is a plus.

Working Hours

• Full-time, Monday to Friday with flexible working hours.

• Occasional extended hours may be required during peak loan volume periods.
