Job Description

The College Arts and Sciences ( CAS ) seeks to hire a part-time, non-instructional adjunct faculty member to develop minimum of two courses foundational and disciplinary courses in Black Studies and assist with review and/or redesign of the Black Studies minor. Courses developed are to be deployed Spring 2024, so course development must be completed before the end of the Fall semester.

The Black Studies Course Developer will work with the Dean’s Office, and designated college departments (as applicable) to develop and design a foundational Intro to Black Studies and a second course focused on Methodologies and/or Theories in Black Studies. These courses will act as foundational and provided disciplinary orientation for the existing minor. The Black Studies Course Developmer will be responsible for completion of the curricular review process and will be expected to complete process necessary for course implementation by Spring 2024. This will be a part-time job requiring no more than approximately 20 hours per week.

The workload and compensation will be comparable to teaching a course with 320 hours in a semester, roughly about 20 hours a week. The assignment can be renewed with up to 3 consecutive assignments may be made per year (Fall, Spring, and Summer) with satisfactory performance. Some work can be performed remotely and/or in the evenings and weekends, although some work will need to be performed in person on the La Verne campus, roughly 50-60% of the 20 hours per week during the daytime work hours. Only selected candidates will be contacted. Once the hiring process is completed, the selected non-instructional adjunct faculty member expected to begin work by January 2024 .

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with a Ph.D. and some teaching experience in a Black Studies course and/or experience with course development.
